  • Overview

    The Vice President of Engineering is critical to the Company’s ongoing commitment to be a leading-edge technology company creating products that save lives. This position focuses on meeting agreed budgets, ensure that the Company’s business objectives are met while maintaining the required regulatory requirements, and to lead and co-ordinate the new product development activities to best position the Company for growth.   The role is to lead the Engineering Teams at ACR Electronics in Ft Lauderdale and Ocean Signal Limited in Margate, UK.   The scope is the development of Land & Marine and Aviation products for the company.  


    Product Development:

    • Work with Marketing and Sales to create and prioritize the product development roadmap.
    • Execute engineering projects and processes assuring on time and on budget delivery on programs.
    • Provide timely and accurate reporting of projects and initiatives to include clear plans to mitigate any issues.
    • Assigns and oversees project personnel to specific phases or aspects of project such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and product testing.
    • Drive unit manufacturing cost lower while maintaining adherence to specifications and regulations with necessary and sufficient safety margin.  
    • Reports on the status of project milestones and adjusts schedules and resource loading accordingly to stay on track.
    • Coordinate the effective use of resources between international engineering sites.  
    • Work with Production to assume timely and successful launch of new products as well as to resolve any production issues.


    Sustaining Engineering:

    • Work with the supply chain management team to assure continuity of supply.   Help identify component and subassembly obsolescence and resolve through minimal redesign and recertification.  


    • Work with the quality organization, the factory, and sub-contractors to assure continuity of production.   Formally problem solve and identify root causes which drive resolution with urgency.
    • Work with the quality organization, the R&O group, and authorized service centers to identify and analyze trends in field failures.   Formally problem solve and identify root causes which drive resolution with urgency.
    • Secure and maintain international certifications for all the products as appropriate.   Assure there are no lapses in the ability to ship products to our customers.
    • Support the Sales team on customer inquiries and proposal generation.

    Process Improvement:

    • Develop and supervise strategies, policies, budgets, and operating plans of the Engineering organization.
    • Stream line existing engineering processes and work instructions to increase speed, reduce paperwork, and maintain adherence to the company quality system (AS9100D).
    • Develop processes for systems engineering including requirement decomposition, methods of compliance, and design verification.  



    • BS in Engineering (MS preferred) with emphasis on Hardware and Software Development of Aviation and/or Communications products.
    • Hardware Development:   10+ years of leadership experience in electrical and mechanical product development.   This should include radio products, satellite communication, search and rescue products, and rugged mobile devices.   Experience in systems engineering.
    • Software:   10+ years of leadership experience in AGILE and Aviation Software (DO-178[]) environments primary working with embedded systems.
    • Manufacturing: Experience and direct working knowledge in SMT prototyping.
    • Test & Certification: Experience in product development in a regulated product industry (FCC, FAA, FDA).   Drive effective processes for the test and certification of products.
    • Formalized problem-solving skill sets and experience leading teams. (8D, 6 Sigma, DMAIC, etc)
